Podcast #17: Christianity, Culture, and Evangelism

The relationship between Christianity and culture has a powerful influence on evangelism, dictating the postures of both the Christian evangelizing as well as the one who would hear the Gospel. Join Ethan as he discusses some aspects of how Christianity and its relationship with culture influences evangelism and how we can most effectively direct people to Jesus!

Seeing that Jews ask for signs, and Greeks seek after wisdom: but we preach Christ crucified, unto Jews a stumblingblock, and unto Gentiles foolishness; but unto them that are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men (1 Corinthians 1:22-25).

Podcast #15: Business vs. Family

The fifteenth podcast of Making The Word Known is now available!

Evangelism and sales seem to be natural partners since both involve the art of persuasion. But should Christians treat evangelism like sales and the church as a business? Join Ethan and Raja as they discuss the business vs. family mindsets regarding evangelism and the church!

But we were gentle in the midst of you, as when a nurse cherisheth her own children: even so, being affectionately desirous of you, we were well pleased to impart unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were become very dear to us (1 Thessalonians 2:7-8).

Podcast #13: Metrics

The thirteenth podcast of Making The Word Known is now available!

We must always be mindful of the metrics used to evaluate evangelism efforts. Join Ethan and Raja as they discuss the various metrics used to evaluate evangelism and the effectiveness of using those metrics!

What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, as the Lord assigned to each. I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor. For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s field, God’s building. (1 Corinthians 3:5-9).

Podcast #12: Goalposts

The twelfth podcast of Making The Word Known is now available!

Making mature disciples is the goal of all evangelism efforts. How do you get there? Join Ethan and Raja as they discuss the various goalposts in the evangelism and discipleship process!

And Jesus came to them and spake unto them, saying, “All authority hath been given unto me in heaven and on earth. Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world” (Matthew 28:18-20).

Till we all attain unto the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a fullgrown man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ (Ephesians 4:13).

Podcast #10: Thinking Beyond Ourselves

The tenth podcast of Making The Word Known is now available!

It’s no secret that people look at themselves and their environment in radically different ways. How can we get people to understand themselves and their world as God would have them to understand it? When people have such divergent views, who is expected to get out of their comfort zone first and attempt to come to an understanding of the other? Join Ethan and Raja as they discuss how God expects believers to go out and at least try to understand the ways others see the world so as to show them the way of God in Christ!

For though I was free from all men, I brought myself under bondage to all, that I might gain the more. And to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, not being myself under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; to them that are without law, as without law, not being without law to God, but under law to Christ, that I might gain them that are without law. To the weak I became weak, that I might gain the weak: I am become all things to all men, that I may by all means save some (1 Corinthians 9:19-22).

Podcast #9: Go and Make Disciples

The ninth podcast of Making The Word Known is now available!

“Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world” (Matthew 28:19-20).

Thus Jesus commanded His Apostles as the “Great Commission.” How important is the command to “go” and “teach”? What about “come and see”? What should be done with the attitude which says, however explicitly or implicitly, “we have the truth, and if they are interested, they should come and find us”? Join Ethan and Raja as they explore Jesus’ imperative to go and teach the Gospel!

One of the two that heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.
He findeth first his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is, being interpreted, Christ).
He brought him unto Jesus.
Jesus looked upon him, and said, “Thou art Simon the son of John: thou shalt be called Cephas” (which is by interpretation, Peter).
On the morrow he was minded to go forth into Galilee, and he findeth Philip: and Jesus saith unto him, “Follow me.”
Now Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter.
Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, “We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
And Nathanael said unto him, “Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?”
Philip saith unto him, “Come and see” (John 1:40-46).
